In the Summer, ‘Chandan Sringar’ makes Lord Sri Krishna cool. The devotees who cover the Lord’s Idol with sandalwood paste, donate sandalwood, or see Him in Chandan Sringar-Vesh with devotion, are easily absolved of three afflictions and ultimately reach the eternal abode. Lord Jagannatha gave direct instructions to King Indradyumna to perform this festival at this time. Smearing the body of the Lord with ointments is an act of devotion, and the best of ointments is sandalwood paste. The festival will be celebrated at our Gaudiya Mission and it usually continues for 21 days with the Utsava Vigrahas covered in Chandan.
