Appearance Day of Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur

Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur’s mother was Narayani Devi, daughter of Srivas Pandit’s brother. Srivas Pandit later settled in Kumarhatta. He had four brothers: Srivas, Sripati, Sriram, and Srinidhi. Srivas had a son who passed away at a young age. They originally lived in Sylhet and moved to Navadwip to live with devotees near the Ganga.

When Mahaprabhu displayed His divine form at Srivas’s house, Narayani Devi was just four years old. She was overwhelmed with devotion and cried out “Hare Krishna!”.

Narayani Devi received the remnants of Mahaprabhu’s food, which was considered a great blessing. Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur wrote about his mother’s devotion in Chaitanya Bhagavat.

Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur didn’t mention his father’s name, only his mother’s. It’s believed he was born in a village near Mamgachhi, where his mother was married. After becoming a widow, she served at Srivasudha Dev Datta’s house, where Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur was born and educated.

He took initiation from Sri Nityananda Prabhu and was His last servant. Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur attended a festival at Khetri with Jahnava Mata.

Sri Krishnadas Kaviraj Goswami highly praised Srila Vrindavan Das Thakur’s work, Chaitanya Mangal, which describes the glories of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and the limits of Krishna Bhakti.
