The celebration of the arrival of spring, Vasant Panchami, is considered a special festival for the worship of Goddess Sarasvati. Meaning: The Supreme Consciousness in Goddess Sarasvati protects our intelligence, wisdom, and all attitudes. Goddess Sarasvati is the basis of ethics and intelligence, and her richness and splendor of nature are great. And the supreme personality of God Krishna is the root cause of all things in this world and outside the universe. He is the supreme cause and the supreme consciousness. God says in Bhagavad Gita–

Mataha parataram nanye kinchedeti dhananjye, maye sarvam protam sutre mani Gansevoort

Meaning: O Dhananjay, there is no better truth than me. Just as pearls are tangled in a thread, in the same way, everything is dependent on me.

Role of Goddess Saraswati

To operate this world, God provides various services to their devotees. Just as Brahmaji was required to create the universe, Mahadev Shankar Ji was given the task of the sangha, in the same way, Laxmi jihad to protect the material elements of this world, the goddess of wealth, Durga. Similarly, Goddess Saraswati has been given the charge of knowledge, art, and music, which she performs very efficiently and the person who worships her receives all of the above qualities.

Goddess Saraswati Bewilders Kumbhakaran

But even while fulfilling her duty, goddess Saraswati remembers that the supreme personality god Krishna is the Lord of all, and every God and goddess is involved in his divine service. For example, in Ramayana, when Ravana’s brother Kumbhakaran does penance to get a boon from Brahma, all the gods and goddesses request goddess Saraswati to take control of his tongue so that he asks for the opposite of what is in his mind. Goddess Saraswati assures the gods, and while the boon was being taken, she got control of Kumbhakaran’s tongue. As a result, the boon he uttered from his mouth, which was supposed to be ‘indrasan,’ came out as ‘nindrasan,’ meaning the boon of continuous sleep. This is how goddess Saraswati protected the world made by the Lord by helping the gods and goddesses.

A Helping Hand

The life of Sripad Ramanacharya can be shared as another example. When Sripad Ramanacharya, because of his master’s will, went to Sharadapeet situated in Kashmir to write the commentary based on the Vedanta Sutra of Shilavyasdev, according to the Sri Vaishnava principle. On being refused by a sage at the request of the original script, goddess Saraswati herself came and gave him the original copy. Also, to congratulate him on completing his commentary, she awarded him the title of commentator. She also offered him her personal Haegriva Deity, an incarnation of the Lord.

Goddess Saraswati Surrenders To Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

We also get another incident from the life of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Lord Krishna himself. A great Kashmiri sage Keshav Kashmiri, a devotee of goddess Saraswati, came to Navadvipa to study the scriptures. This sage was victorious, and he had also inspected all the learning centers of India. Once roaming at the river Ganga Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who was then known as sage, Nimiya encountered sage Keshav Kashmiri. Then Nimai asked him to compose a Sanskrit verse in praise of the river Ganga and that sage composed 100 verses in that short period. Nimai immediately memorized those 100 verses and quoted the sixty-fourth verse in it. He pointed out some of the errors related to the scriptures and literature. He also pointed out more errors in his verses and astonished the sage. He was amazed that a mere student, a child, is pointing out errors in the work of that great of a sage. Still, in the end, the goddess of knowledge, Sarasvati herself, ordered sage Keshav Kashmiri in his dream to accept the asylum of God Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, who is Lord Krishna himself, and this was how that sage became a devotee of the Lord. From all of these examples, we learn that Goddess Saraswati is a unique servant of the Lord who uses her designation and title for the welfare of the living beings and to help the devotees also on the festival of Sarasvati Puja.
