Sri Gadadhar Pandit was Mahaprabhu’s companion from childhood. Sri Gadadhar’s father’s name was Sri Madhava Misra, and his mother’s name was Sri Ratnavati Devi. He lived near the home of Sri Jagannath Misra in Mayapur. Ratnavati Devi regarded Sachi Devi as her elder sister and always kept close association with her.
During His childhood pastimes, Sri Gaurahari would play various games with Gadadhar, sometimes in His own courtyard and sometimes at Gadadhar’s home. They studied together at the village school. Sri Gadadhar was a few years younger than Mahaprabhu. Mahaprabhu could not bear to be without Gadadhar even for a moment, and Gadadhar likewise could not stay even a moment without Mahaprabhu.
In Sri Gaura-ganoddesha-dipika it is stated: She who was Srimati Radharani, the daughter of Vrishabhanu in Vraja, is now celebrated as Sri Gadadhar Pandit.
In the notes composed by Sri Swarup Damodar:
“Tāvadhi-sura varaḥ śrī-paṇḍitākhyo yatīndraḥ
Sa khalu bhavati rādhā śrīla-gaurāvatāre.”
[That best of sages known as Sri Pandit is certainly Radha in the advent of Sri Gaura.]
Sri Vasudev Ghosh Thakur wrote:
Gora is beyond the reach of scripture.
He is the Supreme Brahman, above the Vedas,
Which the stone-hearted atheists cannot understand.
Eternally Nityananda, Chaitanya is Govinda,
Pandit Gadadhar is Radhe.
Chaitanya is the combined form, the very reservoir of rasa,
Appearing with Sadashiva.
Within He is like a fresh cloud, outwardly golden-hued,
Revealing the combined form.
Vasudev Ghosh says: By worship of the Divine Couple,
I desire to serve birth after birth.
In Sri Chaitanya-charitamrita:
The moods and gestures of the Pandit cannot be described.
He became known as “the Lord of Gadadhar’s life.”
The mercy Mahaprabhu showed to the Pandit cannot be described.
People sing of him as “Gadai’s Gauranga.”
