Kamada Ekadashi Vrat March 29, Sunday, 2026

What not to do and eat on Ekadashi:
Ekadashi is a lunar day, considered holy in Hinduism. The 11th day of the bright and dark fortnight of the moon is considered auspicious.

On this day, widows, especially high-caste widows, are required to fast without water. However, people of all castes and genders can observe Ekadashi.

During this time, one can eat fruits, vegetables, and milk, but it’s best to avoid the five forbidden grains.

The five forbidden grains are:

  1. Rice and rice products
  2. Wheat and wheat products
  3. Barley and barley products
  4. Lentils and legumes
  5. Mustard oil and other oils

If one consumes any of these grains on Ekadashi, the fast is considered broken.

Kamada Ekadashi Story:
The story goes on to describe the birth of Krishna and how he was taken to Gokula and exchanged with Yashoda’s daughter.

The text concludes with a prayer to Vasudeva and a description of the Ekadashi vrat.

May we all attain the lotus feet of Sri Krishna by observing this Ekadashi vrat.
